Lamoille County Forest Structure and Health Local Fund Pool FY2026
Residents and landowners in Lamoille County care about our forests. Recent outreach efforts revealed a strong interest in preserving the uniqueness of the landscape by investing in local products and food production while maintaining natural resources. With approximately 80% of the county forested, the majority of which is privately owned and stewarded, forests were identified as the land use most in need of investment for the continued benefit of water quality protection, erosion and flood control, maintaining habitat, and supporting recreation and economic development. The Lamoille County Natural Resources Conservation District (NRCD) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) have identified the following practices for prioritization in support of forest structure and health, as well as landowners’ livelihoods:
- Forest Trails and Landings
- Upland Wildlife Habitat Management
- Forest Stand Improvement
- Brush Management and Herbaceous Weed Treatment
- Forest Management Plan and Practice Design
- Stream Crossing
- Aquatic Organism Passage
- Lined Waterway or Outlet
- Trails and Walkways
- Access Road
- Critical Area Planting
- Mulching
If you are a forest landowner or producer interested in implementing any of the above practices, please contact your local NRCD or NRCS office (information listed below) for more information. The application deadline for funding is August 22, 2025.
