Growing Conditions: Prefers to grow in cooler conditions and is often found on north facing slopes, swamps, stream banks, and rich woods.

Ecological Benefits: A vital wildlife support species! Twigs are food for deer moose and hares. Numerous songbirds rely on its seeds andf buds. Hawks use these as nests and perches and numeropus butterflies and moths depend on the leaves for food as catapillars.
