The primary objective of the UVM Watershed Alliance is to increase awareness and knowledge of watershed issues in Vermont youth.  The Watershed Alliance provides curriculum materials, equipment, and Watershed Educators to schools and youth groups participating in the program, as well as support and guidance for teachers in designing programs in which children learn about watersheds and related water issues.

The Lake Champlain Basin Program provides numerous opportunities for the public of all ages to learn about Lake Champlain, and lake stewardship. Offers resources that include workshops, outreach programs, and informational resources.

The LCBP also hosts a website, The Lake Champlain Basin Atlas that contains more than 40 full-color maps from the Lake Champlain Basin, articles about the maps, photographs, and a glossary. Extra resources, such as website links, manuals, and fact sheets are also available. This 2004 version is loaded with lots of new information, many revised maps, and a new students and educators’ page.


Professional Development

Project WILD / Aquatic WILD
An interdisciplinary, supplementary, and environmental education program that incorporates wildlife concepts and educational skills. Free workshops for educators can be arranged for school districts.

Each spring, usually in May, the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service stock thousands of landlocked Atlantic salmon fry in the Lamoille and Winooski River watersheds.

A hands-on curriculum that encompasses fishing techniques, tackle craft, ethics, ecology, and fisheries management. Teachers can receive materials free by attending an instructor training workshop. This is an excellent curriculum for physical education teachers.
